More Than Just a Record Button:
Why I Love being a videographer

People often ask me what my favorite thing to film is. The truth? It isn't a specific camera or a specific location or event; it’s the problem-solving. Every project that lands on my desk is a puzzle. My clients come to me with a vision and a challenge, and I love nothing more than sitting down with them to establish a plan that turns an idea into a tangible, high-impact reality.

Versatility in Vision: High-End Craft on Any Scale

I believe that a great story shouldn't be gated by the size of a budget. Whether we are doing a "run and gun" documentary-style shoot with minimal gear or a full-blown commercial set with complex lighting rigs, my approach remains the same: I love creating and shaping light.

I pride myself on being able to replicate almost any high-end "look" within a client’s means. It comes down to a transparent conversation about wants vs. needs. My goal is to maximize your budget so that every dollar spent shows up on the screen. Whether I’m molding deep shadows for a moody interview or keeping it bright and airy for a corporate piece, the technical execution is always driven by your goal.

A Front Row Seat to Nova Scotia’s Stories

The Artistry of the Athlete: Dance and Sports

One of the greatest rewards of being a videographer in Nova Scotia is the sheer diversity of the people I meet. Every week is a new education. I’ve had the privilege of learning about the incredible work of Diabetes Canada at their fashion shows and felt the adrenaline of capturing go-karts screaming past me at the PSA Halifax Grand Prix.

Before I dove into dance videography, I’ll admit I didn’t realize the level of sheer athleticism involved. Now, watching dancers perform is mind-blowing. They are elite athletes doing things with the human body that defy gravity. I’ve learned so much about my own craft by watching theirs; live performance and videography share the exact same goal: Capture and hold the crowd’s attention.

That same energy carries over into the world of sports. There is nothing like coming along for an athlete’s journey; the grueling ups and downs of a season and the raw, unscripted emotion of a championship win. Being there to capture the moment a team gets their rings and seeing that pure reaction? That’s why I keep the camera rolling.

The Power of the Human Connection

At the heart of everything I do is the interview. I love the technical side—shaping the light and the room to create something visually stunning, but I love the conversation more. Whether I’m filming a documentary for the displaced people of Africville or sitting across from a company CEO, their stories resonate with me.

Every person has a story that deserves to be shared with clarity and emotion. From the rawest documentary to the most polished corporate film, I love all the moving parts that come with this job. I don't just capture footage; I like to think I capture the human experience.
